Some members of Vital Venues have organised these events in their halls.  They provide an opportunity for local residents and also a letting for your hall.

Driving Safer For Longer (DSFL)

Is aimed at older drivers in Cornwall with help and advice to allow them to continue to enjoy driving, while being aware of any adjustments or considerations that may like to make as they get older.

Cornwall Council Road Safety is able to offer groups of drivers free workshops. These take the form of two hour presentations and discussions to assist older drivers in continuing to enjoy driving. The workshops are run by our experienced Approved Driving Instructors and can be followed by individual practical sessions during which friendly instructors provide tailored feedback and advice.

As we get older…

Older drivers have a wealth of driving experience.  They are also likely to be more tolerant and confident drivers and as a result generally have a lower risk of being involved in a road collision than other age groups.

However, when involved in a road collision older drivers are more likely to suffer serious injuries; this could be due to pre-existing health conditions or the general physical fragility that comes with age.

Why are we doing this?

Statistics show that more experienced drivers are less likely than others to be in a collision involving alcohol or speeding. However, as a driver becomes older, their risk of being involved in a collision at a junction increases. From the age of 60 the risk increases steadily.

By the age of 75 drivers are at least twice as likely to be involved in a collision compared to when they were in their fifties. This is because many of the skills we need to drive are affected as we get older.

It is important to recognise that as you age your driving will be affected. The good news is that by changing the way you drive just slightly, you should be able to carry on driving – and enjoying it – more safely for longer.
