tea and cake

Life just gets busier and busier in Treverbyn and Stenalees. Treverbyn Together who with the help of lots of volunteers from their local community are currently busily painting and decorating their recently extended hall ahead of its reopening have also been successful in securing funding to create Community café sessions.

Funding from the Community Grants programme will enable Treverbyn Together to employ a volunteer co-ordinator to recruit, train and support volunteers in establishing and running regular community cafe sessions.  These sessions will provide volunteering opportunities for at least 30 local people to gain experience in a supported working style environment, ultimately improving confidence, motivation, aspirations and skills.

The cafes will be open to all. One of the weekly sessions will also have a support worker available to help customers with job searches, applications and other back to work related matters.  At another session Treverbyn Together are hoping to provide some basic IT training and support to help some of the older hall users get to grips with using the internet.  Volunteers at the Friday afternoon session will provide a facility for many local families to enjoy at the end of their school week;

The cafes will start in February but recruitment for a paid Volunteer Co-ordinator and the 30 volunteers needed to help run the sessions has started now, anyone interested in finding out more should contact Treverbyn Together for a chat on 0845 643 1121.
