Chairty Commission logoThe Charity Commission has today published an Operational Compliance Report following an investigation of a village hall in Yorkshire where a chairman had been charged with “offences relating to sexual assault against a child”.

On investigation, the Commission found that the Village Hall charity had inadequate policies and procedures to protect its beneficiaries from potential harm.  Therefore they had not acted The Trustees had not alerted the Charity Commission of the issue but also allowed the Chairman to remain in post during a criminal investigation.

The Chairman did not stand at the following AGM and was later convicted and sentenced to 7 years in prison.

The Trustees were advised of their legal duties towards the charity and beneficiaries and appropriate policies were requested to be improved.
