The AGM will be held at the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) offices, which are located at 109 Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3LD on Thursday 14 January 2016 starting at 11am. All are welcome but please let Mary Mathers (the National Village Halls Forum Secretariat on behalf of the Executive Committee) know if you will be attending.  You can view the previous minutes from the 2014 AGM, last year’s accounts and Nominations and Resolution forms here.

In the last year, the Executive Committee have spent a considerable amount of time and effort on the following:

  • Lobbying government – holding meetings with Oliver Lewin MP and other MPs
  • Issuing Press releases and giving interviews to newspapers and BBC Radio
  • Arranging to hold the AGM in November at the Houses of Parliament.  This had to be cancelled as we only receive 1 request from members to attend.

Last year, they held a survey on the future of the Forum.  An overwhelming 78% of respondents said that they thought that the NVHF should continue and 32 (71%) said that they would join or renew their membership.  Yet they have only received a handful of membership renewals.

In the current financial climate with cutbacks to public services, RCCs and other voluntary organisations that support village halls, it is even more important to keep the cause in front of politicians, legislators and others who influence our environment.   The Executive Committee have tried their best and soldiered on for several years with little feedback or support.  Unfortunately it is not possible to continue on that basis.  It is with sadness that they also attach a Resolution from the Executive Committee to dissolve the Forum. IF you feel strongly that the Forum should continue, PLEASE JOIN and vote NO.  But also be prepared to contribute to the running of the Forum by standing for election to the Executive and recruiting members.
